Are we developing students' conceptual understandings and skills in number?
  • Do students know what they're learning in number and its importance?
  • Do tasks provide opportunities to explore mathematical concepts and language?
  • Are we providing opportunities for students to reason, communicate and share their mathematical understanding?

The PPT for this round contains some Di Siemon slides about the Big Ideas in Number, as well as an orientation to rounds and a refresher of our background knowledge. REASONINg - THE HEART OF MATHEMATICS

A practical document, Assessing Mathematical Reasoning from reSolve describes the component skills for reasoning and how it can be assessed.  The second document, Reasoning in the Australian Curriculum, looks at the role of reasoning in mathematics, some advice for teachers, and provides an illustration of a task that requires reasoning.
